Petrified Wood Inlay Material – Sepia

Sold in 10g increments.

This petrified wood inlay material displays warm sepia-toned browns and tans with classic fossilized wood grain. The coloration brings an organic, aged character to a ring and pairs especially well with warmer metals and natural materials.

It compacts well into inlay channels and finishes cleanly when properly sealed beneath a finish layer. Each batch will vary slightly due to the natural fossilization process, ensuring every piece remains unique.

Available in the following sizes.

Large (will need further crushing)
Medium (suitable for individual placements within a channel)
Fine (suitable for filling channels and/or space between larger chunks)

More Info:
Petrified wood begins as living wood that becomes buried under sediment, volcanic ash, or flood debris. With oxygen largely cut off, the wood does not decay in the usual way. Instead, mineral-rich groundwater slowly flows through the cellular structure of the wood.

Over time, minerals such as silica replace the organic material cell by cell, preserving the original grain, growth rings, and structure of the wood while transforming it into stone. This process occurs gradually over millions of years, resulting in fossilized wood that retains its natural pattern but gains the durability and density of mineralized stone.

The color variations found in petrified wood come from trace minerals present during fossilization. Different mineral compositions produce different hues, ranging from greys and blues to warm browns and tans.

Each piece of petrified wood is unique, shaped by the specific environmental conditions present during its formation.
