About 304 Stainless:
304 stainless steel is widely regarded as safe for skin contact and everyday use.
It’s a non-reactive alloy made primarily of iron, chromium, and nickel, designed to resist corrosion and oxidation. The chromium forms a thin, self-healing oxide layer that prevents rust and keeps the surface inert. Because of that, 304 stainless is used in food handling, surgical instruments, and jewelry — all contexts where safety and hygiene matter.
While it does contain a small amount of nickel, it’s tightly bound within the alloy, so very little (if any) is released to the skin. Only people with severe nickel allergies might react, and even then, it’s rare compared to plated metals or cheaper alloys.
So, in short: 304 stainless steel is considered biocompatible, hypoallergenic for most people, and safe for prolonged skin contact.
